Abstract
The immune system of an individual upon activation byantigens produces response to pathogenic microorganismstheir products and to body self-antigens. The latter beingknown as “Autoimmune Response.” Lymphocytes as Tcells and B cells as well as macrophages take part in thisresponse. The T- cells are responsible for releasinglymphokines, B - cells for producing antibodies orimmunoglobulins while macrophages bring about theprocessing of antigens to immunogenic units of the body.Thus autoimmune diseases are characterized by responseof immune system to one`s own tissues and organs and ishence abnormal. At present about eighty different types ofautoimmune diseases are described1. They include rheumatoidarthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, type-1 diabetes,celiac disease, Graves' disease, Sjogren syndrome,inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, psoriasisetc
