Abstract
Abstract—Battery energy storage systems (BESS) with digital controlled interfaces have been widely utilized in various microgrids.  These BESS units interfaced with utility grid via a single-stage three-phase inverter system can be considered as alternative real and reactive power sources besides performing the real-time operating functions issued by the local control centers. The goal of this paper is to present a novel power flow control scheme for the BESS especially designed for voltage stability improvement in a renewable energy based microgrid. The proposed approach aims to achieve satisfactory adaptive and decoupled control features under grid-connected operating mode. In this paper, the proposed control scheme has been developed to control real power (P) or the charging current of the battery bank by adjusting the d-axis current of the inverter and to control reactive power (Q) by adjusting the component of q-axis current. ...
