Abstract
Variable speed wind energy conversion systems are the latest trend in high power renewable energy conversions. In this paper a novel rectifier topology is simulated using Matlab. The rectifier topology consists of two diode bridges which are controlled by three GTO’s. The rectifier can cascade the input voltages to the PMSG in such a way that the conversion of wind energy is possible even at half of the rated wind speed. The entire WECS integrated to the grid is simulated using MATLAB, and the variable speed operation of the WECS is verified using the simulation results. Index Terms—Wind turbine, permanent-magnet synchronous generator (PMSG), Maximum power-point tracking (MPPT), rectifier.
