Abstract
Nowadays, there are several researches about renewable energy sources. Among them, the oceans represent one of the major energy natural resources, which can be used to supply the World energy demand. In this context, the present paper presents a numerical study about the geometric optimization of an Oscillating Water Column (OWC) Wave Energy Converter (WEC) by means of Constructal Design. The 3D computational modeling for the multiphase flow was developed in a commercial code based on the Finite Volume Method (FVM). The Volume of Fluid (VOF) multiphase model was applied for the treatment of the interaction water-air-converter. The computational domain was represented by a wave tank coupled with an OWC device. This coupling enables the analysis of the converter when it is subjected to an incidence of regular waves generated by a numerical wavemaker.
