Abstract
This article studies the effects of twist ratio on heat transfer and the required power of the pump for a flow in a round pipe with a twisted tape in a constant wall temperature in the Reynolds number range of 10000 to 18000 with a twist ratios (H/D) of H/D=41.67, 27.78, 20.83 numerically. The flow assumed to be 3D, steady and incompressible. The heat transfer coefficient Nusselt number (Nu) and friction coefficient (f) obtained for different twist ratios as well as Reynolds numbers. The results show that decreasing the twist ratio increases Nusselt number (Nu) and friction coefficient (f). Also for the purpose of physical analysis, using random dimensional studies, it is shown that for a particular heat transfer, a pipe without a twisted tape needs less pump power than a pipe with a twisted tape. Keywords: Numerical study, twisted tape, Twist ratio, Heat transfer, power of the pump
