Abstract
Forty two F1 generations of 7x7 diallel breeding were evaluated for combining ability study in stress free (Timely planting) and two heat stress environments (Timely planting in polyhouse and late planting) at Arid Zone Research Institute, Bhakkar, Punjab, Pakistan during three crop seasons from 2011-12 to 2013-14.  The mean squares due to GCA, SCA and reciprocal effects were found highly significant for most of the traits. The GCA/SCA variance ratios exhibited that all traits were predominantly under additive genetic control. Parental genotype Bhakkar-2002 was the best general combiner with better mean performance for all the traits in all temperatures stress regimes followed by parent V00183. Similarly the best F1 hybrids were Bhakkar-2002 × SH-2002 and Chakwal-86 × SH-2002 along with their reciprocals. These crosses also exhibited good positive SCA effects along with better mean performance for spike index at anthesis, 1000 gr...
