Abstract
This article aims to assess the Defence Policy and the naval doctrine of the People's Republic of China in light of their strategic challenges. To that end have been discussed: the Chinese strategic challenges in its regional environment from the importance of Sea Lines of Communication and the alleged formation of the "String of Pearls"; the adoption by China of the doctrine of Active Defense and its relationship with the capabilities of Antiaccess and Area Denial; and finally, the Chinese naval modernization, focusing on missiles and their delivery platforms to carry out the tasks A2/AD and the accomplishment of the Active Defense.
