Abstract
Length of growing period (LGP) was assessed using weather cock software for period 1998 to 2021. LGP has shown increasing trend whileannual rainfall has decreasing trend for all talukas in Akola district. The average growing period ranges from 82.25 to 89.83 days in Akoladistrict. On an average LGP for Akola district is 85 days. It is cleared that as crop period of existing rainfed crops in Akola district i.e. cottonand pigeon pea is more than 85 days, they are not suitable to undertake without having provision for protective irrigation, while rainfed oybeancrop is found suitable to grow as having crop period about 85 days.
