Abstract
Psychological hardiness is a personality construct that protects an individual from the harmful effects of stressful situations in life. It is notdetermined by heredity, it is a learned approach and its development depends upon various factors like familial and social support, parentingstyle, self-confidence and gender stereotypes. Among them, gender is the most influential factor and the present study also aims to discovergender differences in psychological hardiness. To study these differences Hardiness Scale by Bartone (1989) was administered to 240 ruraladolescents in the Hisar District of Haryana. The sample of 240 adolescents was equally distributed among both genders (120 boys and 120girls). Results revealed that boys were found to be more committed than girls and had a higher level of psychological hardiness as comparedto girls. Gender stereotypes in society are supposed to be the main reason behind these differences.
