Abstract
A field experiment was conducted at District Seed farm, Kalyani, Nadia, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, West Bengal, India during kharif season of 2017 to study the response of five maize genotypes to different planting density and nutrient levels on growth, yield and economics of maize. The soil of the experimental field was alluvial having sandy clay loam in texture, pH neutral in reaction (7.1) and medium in organic carbon content (0.53 %). The experiment was laid out in split-split plot design with two planting densities (66,000 plant ha-1 and 83,000 plant ha-1 ) in main plots, three nutrient levels (State recommendation, 200:65:80 and 250:80:100 kg NPK ha-1 ) in subplots, five genotypes [VAMH 12014, JKMH 4103, JH 13347, PMH4-C and Bio 9637(C)] in sub-sub plots having three replications. The experimental results showed that higher density planting (83,000 plant ha-1 ) recorded significantly highest plant height (238.6 cm),gr...
