Abstract
This study was carried out with an intension of probing the cellulolytic microbes from the forest soils for knowing their cellulolytic potential. Twenty five soil samples were collected from Thandikudi and Sirumalai forests of Dindugul district in Tamil Nadu, India. Isolation of cellulolytic microbes from 25 soil samples was carried out by adopting serial dilution. Seventy cellulolytic isolates retrieved from the forest soil samples were screened for cellulase activity. Among the 15 efficient cellulolytic isolates (BAC2, BAC13, BAC14, BAC12, ACT5, ACT6, ACT7, ACT8, ACT1, ACT4, ACT14, ACT9, ACT25, ACT18, and ACT3) the cellulolytic efficiency of BAC13 was the maximum (333%). All the screened 15 isolates were positive for Gram
