Abstract
Soil testing and mapping provides information regarding nutrient availability in soils which forms the basis for the fertilizer recommendations for maximizing crop yields. Composite surface soil samples from two hundred and six (206) locations of Kathua district were collected and analyzed by applying geostatistics combined with geographical information system (GIS). Inverse distance weighting (IDW) was adopted to generate prediction maps of the soil properties. The results indicated that the Northern area of study area which constituted the hilly and forest portion was having high OC and available N. Clay loam texture was usually dominant all over the study area. The micronutrients Cu, Zn, Mn and Fe were generally found in sufficient range throughout the region. These fertility maps would provide further knowledge for management of our soil resources, basis for fertilizer recommendations, cropping pattern/ crop design and precision f...
