Abstract
Subabul (Leucaena leucocephala) is a fast-growing fodder tree which has rich source of nutrients, proteins and minerals. Direct sowing and planting of this crop has disadvantages of high cost, laborious and loss of seeds by predation. In order to overcome these problems, cost effective technology as seed ball dissemination is practised nowadays to increase the fodder and green cover on the earth. In this study, seed balls were prepared with different ratios of red soil and vermicompost. The media were prepared at required ratios and optimum amount of water was added to get fine balls and seeds were kept inside and seed balls were prepared as round and smooth balls manually. Then seed balls were dried under shade. Among various ratios, red soil+ vermicompost @ 2:1 ratio was found to be the best for both physical (seed ball weight, fragmentation, dissolution rate) and physiological parameters of seed ball viz., speed of emergence, germi...
