Abstract
Traditional knowledge is built upon the day-to-day observations and transferred from the old generation to the younger by word of mouth. Although, traditional wisdom is more effective in its locality yet it is believed to be unscientific and unreliable because of its unrecorded features. This is recorded only in the mind of people. The Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu was purposively selected. Kotagiri and Udhagamandalam blocks were the two blocks selected from the district. Todas, Kotas and Irulas were the three tribal communities selected for the study. Multistage Random sampling method was adopted in selection of the respondents. Ex post facto research design was adopted. The total sample size is 180. Most of the respondents (82.22%) were very much aware about the practice of growing tea at higher elevation helps to get a more yield and good quality tea.
