Abstract
Tamil Nadu is one of the treasure houses of medicinal plants in India. More than 1000 species of medicinal plants are being cultivated in Tamil Nadu. Agrotechniques has been standardized for a larger number of medicinal plants by the State Agricultural Universities. Due to unorganized marketing arrangements, this sector has not exploited the full potential. The study was conducted to assess the medicinal plants area cultivated during the project period. The results revealed that 100 per cent of the approved area has been brought out to cultivation under various medicinal plants. Dindigul district is having the highest area of medicinal plants with a maximum cropping area of Gloriosa (1592 ha), Neem (29 ha), Coleus (16 ha) and Thulasi (14 ha). Farmers have raised the crop in the 100 per cent approved area. The grants received by the farmers and by the government were full utilized (100 per cent) for the medicinal plants cultivation. It...
