Abstract
Ultrasounds are acoustic waves at frequencies higher than 20 kHz. Sonication is unique among existing seed pre-treatment methods beingsimple, cheap, environment friendly and multifunctional. Ultrasound has been used to induce uniform and rapid seed germination. Severalstudies also proved the ability of the ultrasounds in pathogen destruction in seeds and other crop and food materials. Effect of Sonicationtreatment on the control of Alternaria solani (Ellis and Martin) Jones and Grout causing Early blight of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.)cultivar PKM 1 was studied. The seeds pre-inoculated with A. solani were Sonication treated with frequency of 40 kHz with power range of20W for varied durations of 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 minutes. Sonication treatment significantly reduced pathogen incidence andincreased both germination and plant growth in comparison with the control. Experimental results indicated that all the treatments weresi...
