Abstract
Castor plant (Ricinus Communis L) is a tropical plant which belongs to the Euphorbiaceous family and is cultivated around the world as anon-edible oilseed crop. India is the major producer of castor and holds a giant share of around 80 per cent of the total global production,followed by China (5 %) and Mozambique (6 %). In India, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh are the states that contribute 98 percent of the total castor seed production in India. Gujarat ranks first in area (596 thousand hectare), production (1230 thousand tones) andproductivity (2066 kg/ha). Banaskantha, Patan, Gandhinagar, Kutch, Mehsana, Rajkot, Sabarkantha and Surendranagar are the majorcastor growing districts in Gujarat in the year 2015
