Abstract
Rabi parching (hurda) Sorghum landraces Sakari Mokri from the northern Karnataka and Gulbhendi from Maharashtra are cultivated by farmers on large scale for hurda (tender sorghum) purpose. Good hurda yield with better feature organoleptic properties for hurda quality are the essentials for promoting hurda sorghum in the region. Earliness in rabi sorghum is the other desirable to escape the terminal moisture stress condition. Taking these points in consideration, seed of these landraces were irradiated with 300 Gy gamma rays, using in Gamma chamber (1200 gx) at BARC, Mumbai in order to create genetic variation for the hurda quality parameters to improve hurda yield, hurda quality and earliness. The desirable and promising mutants have been selected in this programme in early generations and have been advanced as per the standard procedure of mutation breeding. The Rabi sorghum hurda material generated and stabilized in the programme. T...
