Abstract
Siltation of a structure causes significant reduction in the storage capacity of the structure and affects the infiltration rate of water to a greatextent. Assessment of siltation rate of a structure helps in desiltation scheduling. The study was conducted at Girwa block of Udaipurdistrict. Three rainwater harvesting structures were taken for the study i.e., Shishvi-I, Shishvi-II and Karmal. The submergence area of eachstructure was divided into grids and excavation was done at the centre point of each grid. The volume of the deposited silt was calculated bymultiplying the area with the depth of silt deposition. The siltation rate was calculated by dividing the volume of silt depositon by time periodfor the silt deposition. The annual siltation rate of the structures Shishvi-I, Shishvi-II and Karmal are found to be 64.75 m3, 157.22 m3 and232.62 m3 respectively.
