Abstract
Correct evaluation of in service behavior of adhesively bonded joints is necessary to ensure the efficiency, safety and reliability of this kind of assembling. While several joint geometries, such as the single- and double-lap joints have gained considerable attention, the single-strap configuration has received little consideration because earlier studies have shown it to be less efficient. In this paper the distribution of stresses in single-strap are studied. One of the objectives of this paper is to demonstrate that strap joints can be as efficient as lap joints, as long as they are properly designed. Consider stress distribution in joint under tension, for which the tow orthotropic adherends could have different thickness and length and consist of different materials. The analysis is based on a tow-dimensional elasticity theory that both include the complete stress-strain and the complete strain-displacement relationship for ad...
