Abstract
In this paper we propose an adaptive movement algorithm for movable nodes in a mobile ad hoc network with parameterised autonomous leader election. A MANET or mobile ad hoc network is infrastructure-less and is also mobile because of the nature of the applications it is proposed for. In our scheme, a weight is calculated on the basis of multiple parameters and assigned to each and every node in the network. The node with highest weight is by default elected as leader. After a predefined periodic interval, by analysing the positions, the leader node checks the movement trend and neighbourhood splintering possibilities within the network and directs the corresponding nodes to control their movement to maintain the network topology. The scheme also allows change of leader in case the current leader becomes ineligible. The change of leader is done without any re-election.
