Abstract
Abstract Fungal infections also called mycosis are important causes of morbidity and mortality in humans. Some fungal infections are endemic, usually caused by fungal spores present in the environment. Barber’s shop is a source of infectious agents for both blood borne and other infestation. This study was carried out to isolate and characterize fungi on barbing tools from barbershops within Dutsin-ma metropolis, Nigeria. A total of fifty samples were collected from 10 different salons within Dutsin-ma metropolis, based on the findings of this study, brushes were the most contaminated tool. The study also revealed that, Rhizopus stolonifer and Microsporum audouinii were the most common non-dermatophytic and dermatophytic fungi recovered from barbing equipments with 40 % and 26.6 %, respectively. while other fungal species identified in the study were Trichophyton equinum (16.6%), Alternaria chlamydospora (6.66%), Aspergillus niger (3....
